About
Nigel Shearing is a self-taught sculptural artist whose work explores the emotion, transformation and tension between conflicting needs of safety, order, impulsivity and freedom.
Antique pianos, organs and forgotten materials become vessels for reflection, life and growth, where ordered parts once enjoyed by others now emerge into flowers and organic forms with energy and emotional presence of their own.
His practice is rooted in a fascination for pianos and what they hold in relation to the inner worlds of people, where safety and emotion can become entangled and transformation needs curiosity, repair and growth.
Living with AuDHD influences the way mechanical form, sensitivity, focus and emotional intensity are experienced. This finds its way into the work through intricate structures, layered symbolism and immersive environments.
His work invites curiosity, reflection and emotional connection through materials that are steeped in history, have soulful presence and celebrate renewal and growth.
